This 14-year-old young boy’s name is Ataullah who is a resident of Mirzaki district of Paktia province. Seven years ago in the morning while he was on his way to school he stepped on a landmine placed by insurgents. In this accident, he lost one of his arms and his legs. Ataullah mentions that: “My body looked incomplete to me for some time until some time passed, even when I came home from the hospital. my body still felt half.” Ataullah is a 5th-grade student and also mentions while playing with his friends he emotionally suffers a lot. His biggest dream for the future is to become a doctor and an engineer and hopes not to miss school.
Ataullah’s family’s low income and his passion for education have urged him to walk 4 kilometres every day to school. Ataullah comes to school passing a lot of difficulties and is one of the millions of children. Like him, we have many other children who have become disabled [I would say differently abled] due to war. Atallah says his family cannot afford to pay for his treatment. He asks the charity organizations working in the country to help with his living expenses and education.
Ataullah mentions that he has hopes. He wants to become a Dr. in the future, so he can serve the nation. He asks the sides of conflict [Taliban and Afg Govt] to stop the war because victims of wars are only Afghan kids and/or youth. At CWB, we have decided to take Ataullah into our sponsorship program.
